One fact about sexual assault is that most of the victims attackers are not strangers but someone that the victim knows personally or they are most likely a family friend
I was going to do Evans' fact but I'll suggest another "fact:" women who are under 18 working as sex workers should never be referred to as prostitutes because it's RAPE, and they are being sexually exploited -- I remember Rachel Lloyd from GEMS made this point at SNLP and it's an important one -- sexually exploited is the international term for under-age "sex workers." It's a human rights issue.

if you go to RAINN.org, they have alot of stats that have been posted in this group every once in a while. I think that might be able to help you out.
As for the general public, I'm not sure why no one really knows much about sexual assult. Probably because so many of us hide it for so long, and most of us deal with the pain on our own in different ways. It's a very individualized issue.
Children are frequent victims of sexual assault, and the perpetrator is usually an adult who was once a victim as a child.
